We last left off discussing the story of the 3 little pigs. I used that analogy to challenge you to think about what your financial house is built with. Is your financial house built with straw? Is it built with sticks, or is it built with bricks? God would encourage you to build your financial house using biblical bricks! Every house has a foundation, four walls, and a roof. Your financial house needs a strong foundation, four walls, and a roof. This article will deal with one of the bricks that goes into the foundation of your house. That brick deals with obedience.

As I was writing this article, I got a call from my wife to come and eat. I heard her but I wanted to get this done so I did not come to eat right away. Basically, I heard the call but chose not to obey right away. That reminds me of how we sometimes treat God when He instructs us in His word to do something. We hear His instructions, but, because we are doing something that we think is more important, we do not heed the instructions right away-IF AT ALL! Well, God let’s us know that there are consequences for that action. In Matthew 7, starting at verse 24, Jesus says…

“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock.  And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house, and it FELL NOT….”

I see three points to this piece of scripture. First, God needs us to hear his Word and also do the things that His word instructs us to do! Often times, we are hearers and not doers of His word. The second point I see is that God will see you as wise. He will consider you wise because you are obedient to His word. Obedience happens because of faith. That faithfulness will cause you to find favor with God. And finally, we see that a wise man will build things that will face challenges. However, the results will be that whatever he built will not fall. The favor of God will be upon whatever he builds so that it won’t fall.

What does this have to do with managing money? Well, you might want to ask yourself whether or not you are dealing with financial challenges that are causing you to fall. Are you honoring God with His tithe? Are you being fully obedient to God’s word? If you are not, then we find out later on in the text that whatever you build will not be able to stand. Actually, the word says that “it fell, and great was the fall of it!”  In order to have your financial house stand, it must be built on a foundation of obedience. You must resolve today to both hear and obey the Word of God so that your financial house will be able to withstand the challenges, and not suffer a great fall!

Our next article will deal with another brick that goes into the foundation of a strong financial house. That brick will deal with “ownership”
